2026
Swedish citizenship test 2026.
Last reviewed 2026-07-10
The first Swedish citizenship test is planned for 15 August 2026 at Stockholmsmässan. UHR writes that registration is closed because the sitting is full.
Öva Medborgarskap is independent study material. It is not affiliated with UHR, Migrationsverket, Skolverket, or the Swedish state.
Date and place
UHR gives Saturday 15 August 2026 as the first test date. The sitting takes place at Stockholmsmässan in Stockholm, and registration is closed.
Only people directed by Migrationsverket could register. An instruction letter was required to create the UHR account used for booking.
How registration worked
A candidate with an instruction letter could create the UHR account using BankID, Freja eID or the personal code in the letter. A completed booking appeared in the account. The letter made registration possible but did not guarantee a place once capacity was full.
UHR does not accept late registration after a sitting closes. Incorrect letter details are handled by Migrationsverket, while technical registration-account problems are handled by UHR.
Format in 2026
- 90 minutes of actual test time.
- About 60 questions.
- Four answer options, one correct answer.
- The test is in Swedish.
- The test is on paper, according to current UHR information.
Civics first, Swedish-language test later
The August sitting tests basic knowledge of Swedish society. It does not replace the separate Swedish-language requirement. Migrationsverket says a Swedish-language citizenship test will be offered no earlier than autumn 2027.
The civics questions are nevertheless in Swedish. Support languages are useful while studying, but they are not available as test languages.
Fee in 2026 and 2027
The first August 2026 sitting is free. The citizenship-test regulation sets a fee of SEK 2,000, but its transitional rule says the fee is applied for the first time to tests held in 2027.
The regulation also exempts certain stateless people with refugee status or a Swedish travel document. The test fee is separate from any citizenship application fee.
What to do now
Use the waiting time to build routine: short reading, short practice, repeat wrong answers, then simulate the full format.
If you are registered, watch your UHR account for the test-day notice. It contains the exact place, time and rules, and should take priority over general advice from another website.
What is not yet published
UHR says results will be published in the account during autumn and reported automatically to Migrationsverket. The exact result date has not been announced.
The next test date is also not published. UHR says information about another sitting will be announced during autumn 2026, and candidates will need a new registration.
Test adaptations
UHR can decide on adaptations for candidates who need support because of disability or other personal circumstances. Adaptation may concern the test itself or the physical environment, and supporting documents must be submitted by the stated deadline.
The deadline for completing an adaptation request for the August sitting has passed. Future candidates need to read the new conditions as soon as another registration opens rather than reuse old dates.
A study sequence before the sitting
- Read the 13 Sverige i fokus areas and mark difficult Swedish terms.
- Answer chapter questions immediately after reading.
- Repeat mistakes the next day until you can explain them.
- Mix topics in short sets to practise switching context.
- Take a full 90-minute mock exam and repair the two weakest chapters.
