Difficulty
How hard is the Swedish citizenship test?
Last reviewed 2026-07-10
The difficulty depends on your Swedish, your understanding of civic vocabulary and how much you have practiced the question format.
Öva Medborgarskap is independent study material. It is not affiliated with UHR, Migrationsverket, Skolverket, or the Swedish state.
What makes it difficult
Many learners know the facts but lose points when a question uses unfamiliar Swedish words or two answer options sound similar.
The test also has a time limit, so you need both understanding and pace.
How to reduce risk
- Study in Swedish, not only in English.
- Read one chapter at a time.
- Answer questions after each chapter.
- Repeat wrong answers the same day.
- Take mock exams only after the basics are familiar.
Three different kinds of difficulty
A knowledge mistake means the underlying fact is missing. A language mistake means you know the topic but misread Swedish wording. A pace mistake happens when stress or time pressure changes an answer you could normally solve.
Record these separately after practice. More reading repairs knowledge gaps, vocabulary work repairs language gaps, and timed mixed sets repair pace problems.
Useful readiness signals
- You can explain correct answers without copying the explanation.
- State, region, county, province and municipality stay distinct.
- You recognise central Swedish civic words without translating every line.
- Your accuracy is stable across several chapters, not only one familiar set.
- You can complete a fresh mock exam within 90 minutes without lookup tools.
Do not trust a pass guarantee
A practice score is not an official pass decision. UHR controls assessment and result information. Until the authority publishes a confirmed threshold, a guessed percentage should not be presented as a guarantee.
Common questions
Is there a fixed pass mark?
Follow UHR for official information about assessment and results.
Does Swedish matter?
Yes. The test is in Swedish, so vocabulary is part of preparation.
Can a mock score guarantee that I pass?
No. Practice results are study signals, not official predictions.
